The drive from Baroda to Saputara had always been exciting and special for me.. enjoying rural Gujarat is something that has to be experienced. This is a random place on this drive where a small river falls down as a beautiful fall. I have used my artistic freedom and added those trees! Also this painting was made as a fengshui element to someone who wanted prosperity and seems like it did give them lot of money! Coincidence? No idea! What mattered was my intention of making this painting was well served and that made me happy :-)

Faces of Angkor by Padmaja

One of the interesting sculpture that caught my attention at the Angkorwat, Cambodia was the churning of the ocean by the Devas. I tried to do a figurative abstract out of it by making use of the artist freedom, just taking the faces and the perspective in to account. I have shared the photo that I took when I visited the place. I used 3 canvasses of 24 " by 48 " to get a big view.

The Temples of Angkor Wat, Cambodia are surrounded by high and very dense jungle and many beautiful ponds, small creeks or rivers. We chose a rainy day to visit Siem Reap, a vibrant town that serves as a gate way to Angkor Wat. Due to the heavy rain, the ponds and lakes were over flowing. We were sort of uncomfortable to carry umbrellas and roam around in the pouring rain. But when we saw these little boys swimming in the lake and enjoying the rain, we threw our umbrellas and enjoyed the rain as well!

Cleanest Village ----Ajay Patil

This painting was done at Mawlynnong -Meghalaya which is known as cleanest village of Asia. i am not sure if its official status but the village is clean for sure.

Rear Window by Padmaja

Prabal's post "Gulmohar Walk" made me long for Bangalore, my home town. But his GulMohar did the trick! Mundane existence had made me ignore the lovely Gulmohar that made a splash of orange behind my rear window. I opened my eyes, appreciated and acknowledged what was available for me to enjoy in the present.. the Gulmohar.. whether in nammuru Bengalooru or aaamchi Mumbai.. continued its joyful exuberance! Thanks Prabal!

Sensational Sedona by Padmaja

Oil on 2 canvasses sized 18 '' by 24 '' ( total size 18'' by 48" ) for sale.

Over millions of years, layers of sandstone and limestone were left in the area by a receding ocean. Iron oxide eventually covered the grains of sandstone and, in a natural process, rust formed. The stunningly beautiful red rocks of Sedona are the result of this process. Being in to New age stuff, my visit to Sedona was to see how it was like, as some of the world's energy vortexes are located here. These vortexes are subtle energy centers where spiritual and psychic powers are enhanced. This is one place in the world where I wouldnt mind spending the rest of my life!

These ethnic wooden doors are a very common sight in the villages of Uttar Pradesh, where my husband was born and brought up. They are huge, heavy and beautiful. This particular door was photographed by a dear friend Suzanne, who went to visit the village with us. This painting reminds me of that wonderful trip.

Jodhpur is known as the blue city of India, as a heap of houses are obviously painted blue.The Mehrangarh Fort lies in the heart of the old city of Jodhpur. Recently, I had been there. I tried to get a glimpse of the fort from a distance. It was a good ride up on that winding road leading to the Fort and I was fascinated by the way the houses were all colored blue! Back in Mumbai, I really wish that I get some free paint and permission to paint the slums to make them look beautiful :-)

This painting was done from a photo taken by fellow artist blogger Ajay Patil. This place is somewhere in Pune. The rain has reduced to a drizzle. Fresh sunlight has come and hit the dome which has got cleaned up in the rain. Some people have already started moving. Some rather hurriedly. But some people who had taken shelter at the road side shops are either continuing their conversation or have spotted something to buy from the shop. Life on just another rainy day in India.

Fall Colors

Recently I was at SanFrancisco Bay area during winter and one thing that I was most attracted to was the beauty of the Fall Colors. All I needed was a canvas and few paint tubes to get going! Friends laughed at my lack of knowledge about these lovely colors.. seems like the best visual input would be from New England and what I enjoyed was just one percent of the whole beauty. I used acrylics and happily dabbed the paints to arrive to this result. This is my first post here. Comments are most welcome, :-)

Painting a self portrait can be a sureshot way of saving the money spent on the model. Here I have attempted to do just that. This was painted in one evening sitting in front of the mirror and painting from life. I plan to do some more of these in varied lighting situations.

The Vendor
